Located just north of Muscatine, Iowa, not far from the Mississippi River, Kurz's Kikos is a small farm operation. After we made the decision to raise goats rather than sheep, we did lots of research to find the perfect goat breed for our timber pastureland. That's when we discovered the Kiko breed. We were intrigued to learn about their ability to gain well on poor forage, hardiness, good mothering habits, and sound feet, not to mention their worm resistance. So we set out to find us some Kiko goats.
Starting with a few 50% Kiko/Boer does and a purebred unregistered Kiko buck, our herd grew quickly. After a couple years, we decided to include 100% New Zealand registered stock. Our first 100% New Zealand registered herd sire, SDR Warrior Bear, was a son of SKY S 408 Sports Kat. Our current herd sire is GHK Artemus from Goat Hill Kikos in Porum, Oklahoma. Check out his picture and pedigree on our Herd Sires page. New additions also included several 100% New Zealand does (see our Herd Does page). We were very excited when our first 100% NZ kids were born in the spring of 2014; and each successive year continues to be just as exciting when kidding time rolls around!
Summer 2018 - New additions: Seven Spanish does were added to our herd this summer. We are looking forward to seeing the 2019 kid crop produced crossing these Spanish does with our 100% New Zealand Kiko buck, GHK Artemus and offering 50% Kiko/Spanish cross kids!
