Located just north of Muscatine, Iowa, not far from the Mississippi River, Kurz's Kikos is a small farm operation. After we made the decision to raise goats rather than sheep, we did lots of research to find the perfect goat breed for our timber pastureland. That's when we discovered the Kiko breed. We were intrigued to learn about their ability to gain well on poor forage, hardiness, good mothering habits, and sound feet, not to mention their worm resistance. So we set out to find us some Kiko goats.
Starting with a few 50% Kiko/Boer does and a purebred unregistered Kiko buck, our herd grew quickly. After a couple years, we decided to include 100% New Zealand registered stock. Our first 100% New Zealand registered herd sire, SDR Warrior Bear, was a son of SKY S 408 Sports Kat. New additions include three 100% New Zealand yearling does that will be bred for the first time this fall to kid in spring 2020. We were very excited when our first 100% NZ kids were born in the spring of 2014; and each successive year continues to be just as exciting when kidding time rolls around!
Seven Spanish does were added to our herd in 2018, producing some very nice 50% Kiko/Spanish cross kids.
